Mansfield Runway Construction Project

Updated 11/6/07

The Mansfield Lahm airport's runway 14-32 will be under construction. The runway will be closed effective 0700 on October 15th. Contractors will work from daylight to dark, Monday through Thursday, depending on weather conditions. The runway will be closed from Monday through Thursday along with the ILS, Glide Slope and Localizer being out of service. At the end of each work week the Runway will be opened for the weekend but will close again on the following Monday. The only exceptions will be due to the weather. This project is supposed to run for 45 calendar days, so we’ll see what Mother Nature has to dish out. The project is broken down into 3 different phases so at some point and there will be a total airport closure for approximately 3 days. AIRPORT CLOSED. I’ll keep you posted on events as they happen, especially when we’re close to the total closure. Again these projects are very important to the airport so we hope everyone will understand and bear with us.

See below for updates. As usual, any questions feel free to call Mark at 522-2191.

November 6, 2007:

The contractors have completed the drainage project along runway 14/32. Plans were to close the airport for 3 day’s but as things would have it, we were able to complete the portion without doing the closure. They’ve installed over 21,500’ of pipe in 11 day’s which was fantastic. Coordination between Contractors and the ATCT were greatly appreciated. It’s really nice when a plan comes together. We should be able to open 14/32 today, November 6, 2007. We may have some minor closures on the runway for the seeding portion to be completed, may happen yet this week. On another previous project, the drainage in the fixed base area…was decided to leave everything settle over the winter and address issues early next spring. I know some hangar owners are unhappy with the now end result but it will be completed this spring. We will have our winter snow meeting on November 14, 2007 at 1300 local at the terminal conference room. Please post, it is an open meeting and anyone is welcome. We’re planning on a relatively short meeting. Those present should include ATCT, 179th CE, FBO, and user’s if they would like to attend.

October 23, 2007:

we made it through the first week of the runway closures. Contractors have put approximately 4100’ at this point. They will continue up to the hold short markings at Runway 23 but return back to the approach end of 14 and install pipe on the left (north) side of 14. At some point we will be doing a total airport closure. The plans call for 3 day closure but I’m confident they will be able to complete the work within maybe 2 half days. It’s too soon to say it will be next Thursday or the following Thursday, or even the one after that, but I will keep you updated. I will do my best to keep everyone updated on the airport closure. Any questions, call.

On another note, we met with Baker construction last week. It was decided that with the current conditions on the top soil and seeding issues from the drainage project in the fixed base area, it would be best to let everything set over the winter. Next spring, they will return and completely go over the entire project. I know several hangar owners are un-happy as I am with current conditions but all issues will be addressed.
