On the 20th of May (Sunday), at
1700 hrs an EAA sponsored meeting was held at the Fonseca
hangar at MFD. The highlight of the meeting was two special
presentations. The first was by an aircrew member of the 179th
Airlift Wing of the ANG, who talked about the different C-130
training missions and how they might affect flying in and around
the Mansfield area, especially at night.
Following that was a talk by Lt. Col. Richard Krauss, a
WWII P-51 Mustang pilot about his experiences during that
war. Lt. Col. Krauss flew as a young first lieutenant for
the 339th Fighter Group out of Fowlmere England
in 1944 & 1945, near the end of the war when the US
dominated the skies over Europe. He has one aerial victory
confirmed and one probable. He also has the distinction of
having a not so friendly encounter with an ME-262 jet, and
lived to tell about it and to fight another day.
MAC member Tommy Beech shares his pictures with us. Click on
